Forgotten video nastiesOctober 22nd 2005, 21:09 Jeff Sela Interesting article on the Guardian website (via Melon Farmers) about the old ‘video nasties’ fuss of the eighties. We're still living with the legacy of the Tory government's reaction to the press outrage at those horror films, in the form of the Video Recordings Act. The original ‘nasties’ are now mostly available, at least when anyone's bothered to get them classified. Some are substantially cut, but the main impact of the censorship that was introduced is the extreme limitations on selling pornography in the UK. Some of the old gore flicks are now being released as a DVD boxed set called Box Of The Banned, containing a documentary about UK obscenity prosecutions, and six films:
