Sorry I haven't been posting much over the last couple of weeks. I've had a lot of work, and have also been working on the software for this site. I now have the technology to post more easily, so hopefully I'll get some more writing done over the next week.

Anyway, I've probably missed all sorts of interesting things going on in the world of sex. I'll post a few links to things here, and I've got a few things I'd like to write about in more detail.

Soccergirl has run in to trouble with bandwidth costs for her crazy podcasts. Sounds like a bit of a nightmare. Surely there must be a way to post these things economically? Perhaps podcasters could use Prodigem, which is a kind of marketplace for bittorrent downloads. I think you can publish things free, or you can ask people for a fee. They handle the bandwidth, but I don't know if they keep the torrents available indefinitely. If podcasts are like audio blogs then you really want a ‘permalink’ that will actually be permanent. And I suppose you'd be limiting your listenership if you required people to use bittorrent. Rocketboom allows downloads via bittorrent, but they also have normal HTTP downloads.

Sam Sugar has been writing a series of articles about marketing porn by deliberately giving more stuff away. There's a lot of sense in that, if only because there are always people giving it away on the web. There are piles of free preview pictures (TGPs, etc.) out there, and and amateur content that people aren't trying to make money out of. If you're going to convince people that it's worth paying for your premium content, you have to show them why it's better than all that. Here are his ponderings so far:
