Christians publish nude calendar

A German Christian group in Nürnberg has published a calendar in which scenes from the bible are recreated with nude models. Mythology with boobies, what's not to like? Ananova has a couple of pictures (via ALMTTR).

Stefan Wiest, 32, spokesman for the Katzwang Evangelical Youth group, said: “We wanted to bring old religious paintings to today's people by translating them in a contemporary context.

“We did not intend to cause any provocation and have received more positive responses that negative.”

So it seems that at least some Christians are comfortable with the human body as a thing of beauty, rather than a disgusting embarrassment. Or perhaps they've just realised how great sex is as a marketing tool. Either way, religious people who think nudity isn't a terrible sin are definitely on the right track.

Of course, there have been criticisms, but apparently most from the USA. What a surprise. There's also this local chap:

Winfried Roehmel, a spokesman for the region's Catholic archdiocese, said: “It is not acceptable to pose naked in a church. The right way to approach the Holy Scriptures is not by pulling your pants down.”

Christians would do well to borrow a few ideas from Wicca.
