A sexually transmitted disease (STD) which is caused by a bacterial infection on the genitalia. It is one of the most common STDs in the UK now, probably second only to HPV. Often there are no symptoms, and currently many people aren't getting tested, so it can easily spread without being noticed.

Once detected, the bacteria can be killed using a short course of antibiotics. Unfortunately, if it goes for a long time without being diagnosed then it can cause infertility in women. The bacteria can cause adhesions to be formed which block the Fallopian tubes.
