The upper chamber of the UK parliament. New laws usually have to be approved by the Lords, and can be ammended by them. The House of Commons can, however, force a new law through against their will, although this has only happened on a few occasions.

The actual members of the Lords are people who have inherited titles, people who have been given them by the government, and some Bishops from the Church of England.
